LSC Equal Justice Conference 2008
The Equal Justice Conference is an annual event co-sponsored by the American Bar Association (ABA) Standing Committee on Pro Bono and Public Service and the National Legal Aid & Defender Association (NLADA). It brings together legal professionals, including lawyers, judges, and advocates, to discuss and enhance the delivery of civil legal services to low-income individuals across the United States.
The 2008 conference, themed "Pursuing Justice: Balancing Challenges and Opportunities," featured nearly 80 workshops across nine tracks, such as delivery innovations, technology, and pro bono initiatives. Sessions addressed topics like human rights, identity theft, medical-legal partnerships, legislative advocacy, mortgage scams, and assistance for self-represented litigants.
Attendees had opportunities to engage in pre-conference sessions focusing on strategies for meeting the needs of self-represented litigants, public interest and transactional programs, and law school pro bono programs. The event also included networking sessions and an expo hall showcasing resources and services relevant to legal aid providers.
This conference is ideal for legal professionals committed to improving access to justice, offering a platform to share best practices, explore innovative solutions, and strengthen partnerships within the civil justice community.
