Interaction 16

by Interaction Design Association (IxDA)

Interaction 16 is an annual conference organized by the Interaction Design Association (IxDA), dedicated to exploring the future of interaction design as a craft, profession, and practice. The 2016 edition took place from March 1 to 4 at Finlandia Hall in Helsinki, Finland, bringing together nearly 1,000 design professionals, leaders, students, and volunteers for a week of workshops, lectures, and social events.

The conference featured five keynote speakers: Marko Ahtisaari from The Sync Project, Kate Darling from MIT Media Lab, Alexandra Deschamps-Sonsino of Designswarm, Cameron Sinclair from Small Works, and Tricia Wang of Constellate Data. In addition to keynotes, the program included over 80 talks, panels, and workshops covering topics such as the future of user experience, design patterns for government services, and the intersection of design and technology.

Attendees had opportunities to participate in 12 workshops held at Aalto University facilities, engage in social events like the Open Studios tour showcasing local design firms, and network during evening gatherings. The conference also hosted the Interaction Awards, celebrating excellence in interaction design.

Interaction 16 was ideal for design professionals, educators, students, and anyone interested in the evolving field of interaction design. The event provided a platform to gain insights from industry leaders, explore emerging trends, and connect with a global community of designers.
