The Intellectual Property Strategy Conference 2017, themed "Corporate Academia Collaboration for Innovation," was co-hosted by Kyoto University's Office of Society-Academia Collaboration for Innovation (SACI) and Unified Patents. The event took place on May 18, 2017, at Kyoto University's International Science Innovation Building in Kyoto, Japan.

The conference featured sessions with panelists from leading companies and academia discussing topics such as the essential role of IP strategy in emerging businesses, the value of corporate-academia cooperation in accelerating innovation, securing and benefiting from high-quality IP, and lessons on successfully fostering start-ups and entrepreneurship in Asia.

Notable speakers included Kenichi Nagasawa, Group Executive of Corporate Intellectual Property & Legal Headquarters at Canon; Bin Sun, Chief Legal Officer at Xiaomi; and James Finnegan, Senior Vice President of Intellectual Property Strategy at Comcast. The event also provided networking opportunities for over 200 attendees, including global innovation leaders in R&D, IP, legal, and finance from corporations and academia.
