The "Seminar: Practical Applications of AI in the Law" was an event hosted by the Western Pennsylvania Chapter of the Association of Corporate Counsel (ACC) on July 11, 2018. The seminar featured discussions led by Lucy Dillon, Chief Knowledge Officer at Reed Smith, and Kevin Miller, CEO of LegalSifter, focusing on the integration of artificial intelligence into legal practices.

The seminar covered eleven key segments where AI can enhance legal services, including drafting, contract management, eDiscovery, legal research, legal analytics, prediction, expertise automation, intellectual property, eBilling, contract due diligence, and contract review. Each segment provided practical examples aimed at helping legal professionals save time, improve quality, and deliver enhanced services.

Attendees had the opportunity to engage with industry leaders and gain insights into the evolving role of AI in the legal sector. The event also facilitated networking among legal professionals interested in leveraging technology to optimize their practices.

This seminar was particularly beneficial for legal practitioners, in-house counsel, and law firm leaders seeking to understand and implement AI solutions to enhance efficiency and service delivery in their organizations.

Kevin Miller

CEO at LegalSifter

Kevin Miller joined LegalSifter in September 2015 after nearly nine years at Industrial Scientific Corporation, where he completed his tenure as Chief Operating Officer. Prior to that, he helped launch an online version of Argosy University and spent nearly six years in various roles at FreeMarkets and Ariba. Kevin holds a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Cincinnati College of Law, an MBA from the Mason School of Business at the College of William & Mary, and a BA in History from Davidson College. He is also a licensed attorney in the state of Ohio.

Lucy Dillon

Chief Knowledge Officer at Reed Smith

Lucy Dillon is responsible for delivering Reed Smith's knowledge and information strategy, ensuring easy access to relevant information and knowledge required for exceptional client service. She leads the firm's Practice Innovation team, focusing on using technology and project management to deliver legal services efficiently. Lucy was a commercial litigator with Linklaters before moving to a knowledge management role. After completing an MBA, she joined Berwin Leighton Paisner as their first Director of Knowledge Management. She is a regular speaker at KM conferences in the UK and the US and contributes to legal management journals. Lucy was named as one of the 'KM Power 20' by Legal Business in December 2014.
