New York Statewide Civil Legal Aid Technology Conference

by Permanent Commission on Access to Justice

The New York Statewide Civil Legal Aid Technology Conference is an annual event convened by the Permanent Commission on Access to Justice, in partnership with Cornell Tech and NYSTech. Established in 2015, the conference aims to educate civil legal services leaders across New York State on leveraging technology to enhance the delivery of legal services and improve operational efficiency. It also fosters collaboration among providers to promote innovative and sustainable technological solutions.

The conference covers a wide array of topics pertinent to the intersection of technology and legal aid. Sessions typically include discussions on remote service delivery, data management, cybersecurity, and the development of online client intake and pro bono management systems. Plenary sessions often feature rapid-fire presentations highlighting innovative technology initiatives, as well as panels addressing pressing issues such as racial disparities in legal services and the impact of artificial intelligence on access to justice.

Attendees have the opportunity to engage in networking sessions, participate in interactive workshops, and hear from notable speakers, including Chief Judges and leaders in the legal technology field. The event also offers Continuing Legal Education (CLE) credits for various sessions, covering areas like practice management and cybersecurity, thereby supporting the professional development of legal practitioners.

The conference is designed for a diverse audience, including attorneys, technologists, and staff from legal services programs, as well as access to justice stakeholders from both New York and beyond. Participants gain valuable insights into the latest technological advancements and best practices, enabling them to implement effective solutions within their organizations to better serve clients and address the justice gap.
