The Sedona Conference Working Group 11 (WG11) 2019 Midyear Meeting was a two-day event held on September 18-19, 2019, at the Four Seasons Hotel in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Organized by The Sedona Conference, a nonpartisan, nonprofit research and educational institute, this meeting focused on advancing the study of law and policy in data security and privacy liability.
Key topics addressed during the meeting included proactive privacy and security governance, compliance with global data privacy and security regulations, defining and measuring statutory damages under U.S. privacy laws such as the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), promoting transparency in artificial intelligence (AI) models and algorithms, and developing model data breach notification principles. Sessions also featured a data security and privacy case law update, a government agency roundtable, and discussions on proposals for data transfers out of Canada.
The event provided attendees with opportunities to engage with leading experts in the field, including dialogue leaders from various sectors such as law firms, government agencies, and private companies.
