Closing the Gap – Representing the Underrepresented Virtually
The Legal Aid Society of Northeastern New York (LASNNY) is hosting a Continuing Legal Education (CLE) webinar titled "Closing the Gap – Representing the Underrepresented Virtually." This event aims to equip attorneys with the skills and knowledge necessary to provide virtual pro bono assistance to low-income clients in rural areas.
The training will focus on utilizing innovative technology to offer limited scope representation remotely. Participants will learn how to effectively connect with clients through the Closing the Gap website, enabling them to assist pro se litigants in housing and consumer cases. The program emphasizes the importance of bridging the service gap for rural clients who might otherwise receive only advice due to resource constraints.
This free training is available to attorneys admitted to practice in New York State who commit to handling two Closing the Gap cases, as well as to legal services and public interest attorneys, law students, LASNNY pro bono volunteers, and court personnel. Attendees will earn 1.0 hour of Law Practice Management and 0.5 hours of Ethics CLE credits.
The event is particularly beneficial for attorneys interested in expanding their pro bono work through virtual platforms, offering a flexible way to serve clients in underserved rural communities. By participating, legal professionals can enhance their practice management skills while contributing to the mission of ensuring equal access to justice for all.
