The 2022 Inaugural Law & Technology Summit, organized by the North Carolina Central University (NCCU) School of Law's Technology Law and Policy Center, was held on October 14-15, 2022. This hybrid event convened legal experts, policy advocates, technologists, and scholars to explore the evolving intersection of law and technology.

The summit featured 17 panels and three keynote addresses on the first day, covering topics such as artificial intelligence, data privacy, cybersecurity, tech policy, legal services, and regulatory reform. The second day included six Continuing Legal Education (CLE) presentations and a lunch-hour panel discussion, providing attendees with practical insights into current developments in law and technology.

Notable speakers included Eva Almirantearena, Vice President and Associate General Counsel at Intel Corporation, and Dr. Siobhan Grady, Assistant Professor of Information Science at NCCU. Their contributions, along with those of other distinguished panelists, offered valuable perspectives on the challenges and opportunities at the nexus of law and technology.

The summit provided ample networking opportunities, allowing participants to engage with peers, industry leaders, and academics. Attendees included legal practitioners, policymakers, technologists, and students interested in the dynamic field of law and technology.

JiNan Glasgow George

JiNan Glasgow George is a patent attorney and former USPTO patent examiner who has built her career by transforming ideas into assets and connecting innovators to the resources they need to make a positive impact. She is the founding partner of Neo IP and CEO of Patent Forecast, a business intelligence SaaS company.

Katia Gondarenko

Business Unit Attorney at Intel Corporation

Katia Gondarenko is a business unit attorney at Intel Corporation, based in Santa Clara, supporting several software technology engineering groups. She focuses on intellectual property licensing, contracts, competitive analytics, and marketing matters. Katia holds a J.D. from Cornell Law School.

Philip G. Hampton, II

Senior Partner at Polsinelli PC

Philip G. Hampton, II is a senior partner with more than four decades of experience in intellectual property law. He has served as the Assistant Commissioner for Trademarks at the USPTO and has extensive experience in trademark prosecution, litigation, and counseling.

Siobhan Grady

Assistant Professor and Program Director at North Carolina Central University

Siobhan Grady is the first woman to earn a Ph.D. in computer science from North Carolina A&T State University. She is an assistant professor of information science/systems and Program Director for the Information Science program at North Carolina Central University. Her research focuses on utilizing machine learning to identify sources of misinformation on social media and improving fault detection in autonomous vehicles.

Veronica Hayes Gromada

Litigator and Corporate Advisor at Formerly at Walmart

Veronica Hayes Gromada is a litigator, legal/risk management strategist, and corporate advisor with 22 years of experience, including 17 years at Walmart. She supervised one of the largest tort litigation portfolios in the nation and led two of Walmart's largest in-house legal sections.
