20th Annual Brigham-Kanner Property Rights Conference
The 20th Annual Brigham-Kanner Property Rights Conference, organized by the William & Mary Law School's Property Rights Project, convened on October 26–27, 2023, in Williamsburg, Virginia. This esteemed event brought together scholars, practitioners, and policymakers to discuss and advance the understanding of property rights and their significance in individual liberty.
The conference featured a series of panels addressing critical topics in property law. Sessions included "Property and Propriety: A Tribute to Gregory S. Alexander," "Equity’s Role in Defining Property Rights," "The Restatement’s Impact on Property Rights," and "The Scalability of Property Rights." These discussions provided in-depth analyses of contemporary issues affecting property rights jurisprudence.
A highlight of the event was the presentation of the Brigham-Kanner Property Rights Prize to Gregory S. Alexander, the A. Robert Noll Professor of Law Emeritus at Cornell Law School. Professor Alexander was recognized for his substantial contributions to property law scholarship over more than 25 years.
The conference also offered ample networking opportunities, allowing attendees to engage with leading experts in the field. The awards dinner, held in the historic Great Hall of William & Mary’s Wren Building, provided a distinguished setting for participants to connect and celebrate advancements in property rights.
