5th Annual Class Action Money and Ethics Conference

by Hausfeld

The 5th Annual Class Action Money and Ethics Conference convened class-action professionals from diverse disciplines to explore the economic and ethical dimensions of class actions. The event featured prominent speakers from both sides of the Atlantic, including representatives from Hausfeld, a leading global litigation law firm.

On June 29, Hausfeld's Global Managing Partner, Brent Landau, participated in a panel titled "Ethics: Fee-Sharing, Litigation Funding, and Class Actions." The discussion addressed the implications of Rule 5.4 of the ABA Model Rules of Professional Conduct, which generally prohibits lawyers from sharing fees with non-lawyers. Panelists examined how this rule affects various financing methods for class actions, the amendments some jurisdictions are making to allow greater flexibility, and the role of courts in reviewing litigation funding arrangements.

The following day, June 30, Lucy Rigby, a London Partner and competition specialist at Hausfeld, joined a panel to discuss "Class Actions in the UK." The session compared UK and US class action frameworks, highlighted the types of cases being filed in the UK, and provided updates on their current status.

This conference offered valuable insights for legal practitioners, scholars, and professionals involved in class actions, providing a platform to discuss emerging trends, ethical considerations, and jurisdictional differences in class action litigation.
