Lutie A. Lytle Black Women Law Faculty Workshop and Writing Retreat
The Lutie A. Lytle Black Women Law Faculty Workshop and Writing Retreat is an annual event dedicated to supporting and advancing Black women in the legal academy. Named after Lutie A. Lytle, the first Black woman law professor in the United States, the workshop provides a platform for current and aspiring Black women law faculty to enhance their scholarship, develop teaching and leadership skills, and receive mentorship and career support.
The workshop covers a range of topics essential for professional development, including strategies for navigating the job market, effective teaching methodologies, leadership in legal education, and the development of scholarly agendas. Participants engage in sessions that offer critical feedback on works-in-progress, such as articles, book proposals, and research ideas, fostering a collaborative environment for academic growth.
In addition to scholarly sessions, the event features networking opportunities, plenary discussions, and wellness activities. Notable speakers, including deans and distinguished professors from various law schools, share insights and experiences, enriching the program. The workshop also includes social events like dinners and receptions, facilitating deeper connections among attendees.
This workshop is ideal for Black women law faculty at all stages of their careers, from those preparing to enter the legal academy to seasoned professors seeking to refine their scholarship and leadership skills.
