2023 New York Statewide Civil Legal Aid Technology Conference

The 8th Annual New York Statewide Civil Legal Aid Technology Conference, organized by the Permanent Commission on Access to Justice in partnership with Cornell Tech, was held remotely via Microsoft Teams on April 18 and 19, 2023. This conference is designed for the New York State civil legal aid community, including attorneys and staff from legal services programs, as well as access to justice stakeholders both within and outside New York.

The conference featured 16 sessions, including four plenary sessions: "Rapid Fire Tech," highlighting innovative technology initiatives; "Building Cultures of Innovation," discussing the teaching of legal technology; "LSC Baselines," covering new 2023 technology baselines for providers; and "25 Apps in 50 Minutes," showcasing various applications and tips. Additionally, 12 breakout sessions were organized into four tracks: Data and Privacy, Court Technology, Law Practice Management, and Online Legal Services Delivery.

Attendees had opportunities to engage in discussions on topics such as data privacy, court technology advancements, law practice management, and online legal services delivery. The event also provided Continuing Legal Education (CLE) credits for participants, with certificates issued upon submission of required forms.

This conference is ideal for legal professionals and stakeholders interested in leveraging technology to enhance the delivery of civil legal services. It offers valuable insights into current technological trends and fosters collaboration among providers to improve access to justice.
