12th HNBA/VIA Intellectual Property Law Institute
by Hispanic National Bar Association (HNBA) and HNBA VIA Fund
The 12th HNBA/VIA Intellectual Property Law Institute (IPLI) is an intensive program designed to immerse Hispanic law students in the fields of intellectual property and technology law. Organized by the Hispanic National Bar Association (HNBA) and its charitable arm, the VIA Fund, the IPLI aims to increase the number of Hispanic lawyers practicing in these specialized areas.
Throughout the week-long program, participants engage in comprehensive sessions covering patents, trademarks, design patents, trade secrets, and IP litigation, including biotechnology. These sessions are led by experienced practitioners and industry experts, providing scholars with both theoretical knowledge and practical insights into the complexities of intellectual property law.
In addition to the educational components, the IPLI offers valuable networking opportunities. Scholars visit key U.S. government institutions such as the Patent and Trademark Office, the Copyright Office, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. They also participate in workshops focused on writing and interviewing skills, resume reviews, and mock interviews, all designed to enhance their professional development.
The IPLI is ideal for Hispanic law students who have a demonstrated interest in intellectual property or technology law. By participating, scholars gain in-depth knowledge, practical experience, and connections with professionals in the field, positioning them for successful careers in these specialized areas.
