The 2024 Annual Conference on Legal Issues in Social Entrepreneurship and Impact Investing – in the US and Beyond was co-organized by the Grunin Center for Law and Social Entrepreneurship and the Impact Investing Legal Working Group. Held on June 4–5, 2024, at NYU School of Law's Vanderbilt Hall in New York City, the conference attracted over 300 students, lawyers, academics, and other stakeholders from around the world.
The conference addressed key themes such as navigating incentives in impact investing, revolutionizing nonprofit engagement through philanthropy and private capital, charting the future of impact investing, and promoting environmental resilience, climate action, and nature conservation. The program offered opportunities for learning, networking, and celebrating the achievements of lawyers advancing these fields.
Notable speakers included Kimberly Eney, Co-Chair of Family Office at Loeb & Loeb LLP, who participated in the panel "Using Nonprofits and Related Vehicles to Maximize Impact: Key Considerations." The conference also featured the presentation of the 2024 Grunin Prize for Law and Social Entrepreneurship, awarded to the legal teams at Calvert Impact and Morgan Lewis for their innovative Cut Carbon Note program.
This conference was designed for students, legal professionals, academics, and stakeholders interested in social entrepreneurship and impact investing, providing a platform to engage with current legal, ethical, and social issues in these fields.

Kevin Saunders

Kevin serves as Vice President, Legal, at the Fidelity Foundations, advising on not-for-profit compliance, impact capital structuring, and in-house legal issues. He co-founded the Impact Investing Legal Working Group and has taught Financial Inclusion and Law at Boston University School of Law.
Leslie Cornell
Vice President and Deputy General Counsel at Social Finance
Leslie manages the legal team at Social Finance, advising on policy and regulatory priorities, and supports the General Counsel in organizational strategy. She teaches impact investing and social entrepreneurship at Georgetown University Law Center.
Mary Rose Brusewitz
Member/Partner at Clark Hill PLC
Mary Rose is a founding member of the Impact Investing Legal Working Group and has provided leadership over the past decade. She has shaped the fields of impact investing, sustainability, and development finance globally.
Ruth Gao
Associate General Counsel for Impact Investments at Robert Wood Johnson Foundation
Ruth brings experience in private equity, venture capital, and M&A to her role at the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. She previously served as Associate General Counsel at Calvert Impact and was a Fellow at the Grunin Center for Law and Social Entrepreneurship.
