Constitution Day Celebration

The Constitution Day Celebration at Lincoln University is an annual event organized by the university's faculty, staff, and students to commemorate the signing of the U.S. Constitution. The 2024 celebration is scheduled for September 16, 2024, at the Pawley Theatre in MLK Hall, located at 812 E. Dunklin St., Jefferson City, MO.

The event features a public reading of the U.S. Constitution and its amendments, allowing attendees to engage directly with the foundational text of American governance. Following the reading, Willie J. Epps, Jr., Chief United States Magistrate Judge for the Western District of Missouri, will deliver a lecture titled "The Various Ways Federal Judges Interpret the U.S. Constitution." Judge Epps brings a wealth of experience to the discussion, having served as an Air Force Judge Advocate, Special Assistant U.S. Attorney, and Assistant Special Counsel for the Waco Investigation. He is a graduate of Amherst College, Harvard Law School, and Duke University School of Law.

This event is open to all members of the Lincoln University community, including students, faculty, and staff. Willie J. Epps, Jr.

Chief United States Magistrate Judge at Western District of Missouri

Judge Willie J. Epps, Jr. was born in Natchez, Mississippi, and raised in North St. Louis County, Missouri. He began his legal career in service to our country as an Air Force Judge Advocate, Special Assistant U.S. Attorney, and Assistant Special Counsel for the Waco Investigation. Later, he was named partner at two law firms and head of litigation at a financial services firm. Judge Epps is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and former chair of the National Conference of Federal Trial Judges. He is a graduate of Amherst College, Harvard Law School, and Duke University School of Law.
