Faculty Development Programme on New Criminal Laws

The Asian Law College (ALC) organized a virtual one-week Faculty Development Programme (FDP) titled "New Criminal Laws: Transforming and Revamping the Criminal Justice System" from July 8 to July 15, 2024. This event was conducted by ALC's Research and Development Cell and attracted over 100 participants from various national colleges and members of the legal fraternity.

The FDP featured a series of sessions led by distinguished legal experts. Topics covered included the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita (Indian Penal Code), Bhartiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (Code of Criminal Procedure), and Bhartiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (Indian Evidence Act). Discussions focused on key modifications in decriminalization of offenses, amendments in investigation procedures and bail provisions, admissibility of electronic evidence, and the impact of new laws on victim rehabilitation and restorative justice.

Notable speakers included Hon’ble Justice Aditya Nath Mittal, Former Chairperson of UP State Commission and Retired Judge of Allahabad High Court; Prof. (Dr.) Balraj Chauhan, Former Vice Chancellor of DNLU and RMLNLU; Prof. (Dr.) Jyoti Dogra Sood from the Indian Law Institute; and Adv. Nar Hari Singh, Advocate-On-Record at the Supreme Court of India. Their insights provided participants with a comprehensive understanding of the transformative changes in India's criminal justice system.

This programme was particularly beneficial for legal educators, researchers, and practitioners seeking to stay abreast of recent legislative reforms. Attendees gained valuable knowledge on the evolving legal landscape, enhancing their ability to effectively teach and apply new criminal laws in their respective fields.
