by Catholic University Journal of Law & Technology

The 2024 Journal of Law & Technology Symposium, titled "AI Juris Doctor? The Future of Artificial Intelligence in Legal Education and the Profession," was organized by the Catholic University Journal of Law & Technology. This annual event convened experts to explore the evolving role of artificial intelligence in the legal field.

The symposium featured two panel discussions. The first, "AI in the Legal Profession," examined current applications of AI within legal practice, the emerging skill sets required for new lawyers, and the challenges and opportunities that law firms encounter with AI integration. The second panel, "AI in Law Schools," focused on the incorporation of AI into legal education, addressing its use in classrooms, the challenges faced by faculty, student engagement with AI tools, and the potential impact on future legal careers.

Notable speakers included Dan Broderick, CEO and co-founder of BlackBoiler; Dr. Seth Dobrin, founder of Qantm AI and former Global Chief AI Officer at IBM; Ed Walters, Chief Strategy Officer at vLex and co-founder of Fastcase; Professor Ron Lazebnik of Fordham University School of Law; Caitlin Moon, founding co-director of the Vanderbilt AI Law Lab; and Christopher Savage, partner at Davis Wright Tremaine and lecturer at Catholic Law.

This symposium was particularly relevant for legal professionals, educators, and students interested in understanding and adapting to the transformative effects of AI on legal education and practice.
