The Mediation Conference 2024, themed "Mediate First: Bridge Cultures, Build Futures," was organized by the Department of Justice of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. This biennial event aimed to promote the wider use of mediation in Hong Kong as an effective means to resolve disputes, bringing together practitioners and the public to gain insights into the latest developments in mediation and dispute resolution.

The conference featured several key sessions, including "Connecting the Dots: Mediating Across Boundaries in the GBA," which explored opportunities brought by the mediation standards and model rules promulgated by the Greater Bay Area (GBA) Mediation Platform. Another session, "International Mediation: What Hong Kong has to offer?" discussed Hong Kong's role in providing mediation services for cross-jurisdictional disputes. Additionally, "Bots v Humans? The Future of Mediation" examined the implications and potential of artificial intelligence in the field of dispute resolution and mediation.

Attendees had the opportunity to engage with distinguished speakers and panelists from various regions, including Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao, who shared case studies and insights on navigating legal differences, overcoming cultural barriers, and leveraging technology to improve access to justice. The conference also provided a platform for networking and collaboration among mediation professionals and stakeholders.

The Mediation Conference 2024 was particularly beneficial for legal practitioners, mediators, academics, and individuals interested in dispute resolution. It offered valuable perspectives on the evolving landscape of mediation, especially in the context of the Greater Bay Area and international disputes, highlighting Hong Kong's strategic position as a hub for mediation services.
