Roundtable Discussion: Tribes, Intellectual Property, and Consumer Protection
The United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), in collaboration with the National Association of Attorneys General Center for Consumer Protection and the Attorney General Alliance, is hosting a roundtable discussion titled "Tribes, Intellectual Property, and Consumer Protection." This event aims to bring together intellectual property experts, federal officials, and Tribal representatives to explore the intersection of intellectual property rights and consumer protection within Native American communities.
Key topics to be addressed include the impact of intellectual property crimes on Native Americans, strategies for safeguarding Native American arts and crafts, collaboration between state and tribal authorities on consumer protection investigations, international developments concerning traditional knowledge and cultural expressions, and methods to enhance public awareness and influence consumer behavior.
The program will feature multiple panel discussions led by experts in the field, providing attendees with opportunities to engage with panelists and network with peers. Notable speakers include Derrick Brent, Deputy Under Secretary of Commerce for Intellectual Property, and representatives from various federal agencies and Tribal organizations.
This event is particularly relevant for Tribal leaders, legal professionals, policymakers, and individuals interested in the protection of Native American intellectual property and consumer rights. Participation offers valuable insights into current challenges and collaborative solutions in these areas.
