The AI Battlefields – How to Navigate and Overcome the Legal Challenges is a conference organized by the International Bar Association (IBA) Intellectual Property, Communications, and Technology Section. Scheduled for November 7–8, 2024, at the Excelsior Hotel Gallia in Milan, Italy, this event aims to address the complex legal challenges posed by the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence.

The conference will cover a range of critical topics, including AI bias and discrimination, legal considerations and risk mitigation, the impact of AI on copyright protection in the digital world, and the potential for AI to revamp existing ICT infrastructure. Sessions will also explore contracting on AI and the legal implications of AI-generated artworks.

Attendees will have opportunities to engage with leading experts through keynote addresses, panel discussions, and interactive sessions. The event is designed for legal professionals, policymakers, and technologists seeking to understand and navigate the evolving legal landscape of AI.

Aparna Gaur is a Counsel in the Technology, Media, and Telecommunications Practice at Trilegal. She has extensive experience advising clients on complex legal issues related to data privacy, cross-border data transfers, cybersecurity, consumer protection laws, digital advertising, e-commerce, and the adoption and use of new technologies, including AI. She assists clients with drafting and negotiating commercial contracts and has represented clients in IP and technology law disputes before various courts in India. Aparna has been recognized as a 'Rising Star for TMT' and a 'Leading Individual' for IP by Legal 500 in 2024.

Ignacio Sanchez De Lara

Trust & Compliance Officer at IBM Europe, Middle East & Africa

Ignacio Sanchez De Lara is the Trust & Compliance Officer for IBM Europe, Middle East & Africa. He also serves as an AI Ethics Focal Point, working with the Office of Privacy and Responsible Tech on global initiatives. Ignacio joined IBM in 2016 as a member of the Legal Department in Dublin, Ireland, where he worked on various topics such as Competition Law, Procurement, and Contracts. He graduated and qualified as a lawyer in Madrid, Spain.

Katherine Wilson-Milne is a partner at Schindler Cohen & Hochman LLP, a leading litigation and art law boutique in New York City. She advises clients in the art, cultural, and creative communities, including galleries, startups, collectors, artists, and not-for-profit organizations, on transactional matters related to the creation, purchase, sale, loan, and financing of art. She also represents clients in disputes involving representation, contracts, copyright, authenticity, title, provenance, and appraisals. Katherine teaches and speaks regularly on art law topics and co-hosts the Art Law Podcast.

Kensuke Inoue

Luna Bianchi

She has been in the tech field for over 10 years, focusing on the social and juridical impacts of digital transformation. Since July 2022, she has been part of the World Economic Forum Working Group for designing the governance of the Metaverse. In 2023, she co-founded Immanence, the first Italian company supporting public and private organizations to assess and govern the societal impacts and ethical risks emerging from AI.

In 2023, she co-founded AIRIA, the International Association for Artificial Intelligence Regulation, a think tank aimed at fostering constructive dialogue on various AI-related issues.

Prior to Scale, Max served as the Policy and Government Affairs Lead at Joby Aviation, leading the company's engagement with the U.S. Government. He previously spent time on Capitol Hill and graduated from Bowdoin College, majoring in Government and Legal Affairs.

Olivier De Baecque
