The 6th UNCITRAL Asia-Pacific Judicial Summit, held from December 1 to 2, 2025, in Hong Kong, was a biennial flagship event jointly organized by the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) Regional Centre for Asia and the Pacific and the Department of Justice of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. The summit convened senior members of the judiciary, legal professionals, policymakers, and international experts to discuss the role of the judiciary in promoting the progressive harmonization of international commercial law, particularly through the uniform interpretation and application of UNCITRAL legal instruments.

The summit's theme, "The Future is Now: Legally Enabling Digitalization of International Trade," encompassed key topics such as the digitalization of trade finance and digital assets, the UNCITRAL Model Law on Electronic Transferable Records, the Draft UN Convention on Negotiable Cargo Documents, and current trends in dispute resolution within the digital economy. These discussions aimed to address the legal challenges and opportunities presented by the rapid digital transformation of international trade.

The event featured a Judicial Conference open to the public, comprising four panels that delved into the aforementioned topics. Additionally, a Judicial Roundtable provided a platform for in-depth dialogues among judges and judicial officers on innovative judicial approaches for handling disputes involving artificial intelligence and the dynamic interaction between alternative dispute resolution mechanisms and formal court proceedings. The summit also offered networking opportunities, allowing participants to engage with peers and experts in the field.

Legal professionals, policymakers, academics, and members of the judiciary were encouraged to attend to gain insights into the latest developments in international commercial law and to contribute to the ongoing discourse on digitalization in trade. The summit provided a unique opportunity to engage with leading experts and to explore collaborative approaches to the challenges posed by the digital economy.
