The CMI Colloquium Rio 2026 is an international maritime law conference organized by the Comité Maritime International (CMI) in collaboration with the Associação Brasileira de Direito Marítimo (ABDM). Scheduled from May 12 to 15, 2026, the event will take place at the Windsor Barra Hotel in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. This colloquium aims to bring together legal professionals, scholars, and industry experts to discuss and advance the unification of international maritime law.
The conference will cover a range of pertinent topics, including the ratification of international conventions by Latin American countries, decarbonization in the maritime sector, maritime autonomous surface ships (MASS), and fraudulent ship registration. Sessions will feature discussions on the United Nations Convention on Negotiable Cargo Documents, security interests in containers, and the CMI Lex Maritima. Notable lectures include the Berlingieri Lecture by Prof. Norman Martinez, marking the 50th anniversary of the International Convention on Limitation of Liability 1967.
Attendees can look forward to networking opportunities such as the Welcome Reception at Cavalo Marinho and the Gala Dinner at Casa das Canoas. Optional tours, including visits to the Botanical Garden with lunch at Casa Camolese, are available for accompanying persons.
