Conference of the Association of Human Rights Institutes (AHRI) 2026
by Geneva Academy of International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights
The Conference of the Association of Human Rights Institutes (AHRI) 2026 is an international gathering dedicated to examining the enduring contributions and challenges associated with the 60-year and 20-year legacies of the International Covenants and the United Nations Human Rights Council. This event is co-organized by the Geneva Academy of International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights, in collaboration with the Law Department of the Geneva Graduate Institute, the Faculty of Law of the University of Geneva, and the Global Campus of Human Rights.
The conference will focus on critical evaluations of the implementation of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR) and the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (ICESCR), both adopted in 1966, as well as the work undertaken by the Human Rights Council since its inception in 2006. Key topics include the indivisibility and interdependence of human rights, the role of the Human Rights Council and its mechanisms, and the future trajectories of these international instruments.
Attendees will have opportunities to engage in panel discussions, paper presentations, and networking sessions with scholars, practitioners, policymakers, diplomats, researchers, independent human rights specialists, and members of civil society organizations. The event will be held as a hybrid conference, allowing for both in-person and remote participation.
This conference is ideal for individuals involved in human rights research, policy development, and advocacy who are interested in critically assessing the impact and future of international human rights instruments and institutions.
