2026 Equal Justice Conference

by ABA/NLADA

The 2026 Equal Justice Conference, now in its 28th year, is an annual gathering co-hosted by the American Bar Association (ABA) and the National Legal Aid & Defender Association (NLADA). This event brings together legal services and pro bono advocates to share and learn about developments and innovations in providing legal services to low-income individuals. The conference emphasizes strengthening partnerships among key players in the civil justice system.

Attendees can expect a diverse array of plenary sessions, workshops, and special programming covering topics such as leadership, communications, trust, culture change, equity and inclusion, and financial management. These sessions are designed to provide a wide range of learning and sharing experiences for all participants.

In addition to the main conference, a pre-conference event, the MIE New Executive Director Training, is scheduled for May 12-13, 2026. This training offers new legal aid program leaders support and guidance in addressing contemporary management challenges, with an agenda that includes discussions on the role of the director, leadership, communications, trust, culture change, equity and inclusion, and financial management. Participants will have the opportunity to engage with peers, hear from experienced leaders, and think intentionally about the diverse demands on a director’s time and attention.

The conference is ideal for legal services and pro bono advocates seeking to enhance their knowledge, develop new skills, and strengthen partnerships within the civil justice system. It provides a platform for networking, professional development, and collaboration among professionals dedicated to equal justice.
