The Hispanic National Bar Association (HNBA) is a national association of attorneys, judges, law students, and other legal professionals whose mission is to educate, engage, and empower practicing and aspiring members of the Hispanic legal community and advocate on issues that impact the broader Hispanic community.
The HNBA's International Law & Foreign-Trained Section serves HNBA members and the profession by working to integrate foreign-trained JDs and LLMs into the US legal community and educating HNBA members with international practice interests on relevant legal developments in order to help them serve their clients competently, efficiently and professionally.
The HNBA's International Law & Foreign-Trained Section seeks to:
- Promote knowledge-sharing and networking among interested HNBA members and stakeholders in the international legal arena, including academics, government officials, in-house counsel at multinational corporations, and officials of international bodies such as the Organization of American States, the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund, and similar institutions.
- Promote the exchange of best practices in counseling international business on legal compliance and corporate social responsibility.
- Promote collaboration with the leaders of international bar associations and those throughout Spain, Portugal and Latin America.
- Offer programs on comparative and international legal topics (i.e., trade regulation, public international law, international human rights, managing a global workforce, corporate, tax, labor and protection of intellectual property rights).
- Provides a forum for HNBA members practicing abroad to organize activities and integrate into the HNBA.
- Organizing initiatives, programs, and networking opportunities to help educate and prepare foreign-trained attorneys regarding US law school curriculum and US employment and careers (i.e., how to manage a job search to non-traditional careers for foreign-trained attorneys).
- Monitor compliance with the HNBA’s Memorandums of Understanding with the Argentine Lawyers Association and Barra Mexicana.
