Jura Falconis Seminar 2026: AI in the Belgian Legal Landscape

by Jura Falconis

On Wednesday, 22 April 2026, Jura Falconis will host its annual seminar titled "AI in the Belgian Legal Landscape." Jura Falconis is a legal academic journal written and published by students. In addition to organizing this seminar, the editorial board annually hosts an award ceremony recognizing the best bachelor’s and master’s theses.

Artificial intelligence is rapidly transforming the way law is practiced, taught, and regulated, reshaping the Belgian legal landscape in profound ways. This seminar brings together leading academics and practitioners to explore how artificial intelligence is influencing diverse areas of Belgian law and what this means for the future of the legal profession.

Throughout the day, speakers will address both the opportunities and challenges posed by AI. Topics include Belgian language models, AI's role in judicial decision-making and education, and the implications of the AI Act for Belgium, with a particular focus on Flanders. The program further examines the impact of AI on liability law, health law, fundamental rights, consumer protection, and the day-to-day practice of law firms. By offering perspectives across legal domains, this seminar aims to foster an informed and critical dialogue on the responsible development and use of artificial intelligence within the Belgian legal system.

Prof. Dr. Jan De Bruyne (KU Leuven) will chair this year’s seminar. Our speakers will bring both academic and practical insights, each from their own area of expertise. Participants can expect engaging presentations on the developments outlined above, with ample opportunity for questions and discussion. The seminar is intended for a broad audience, ranging from legal professionals and academics to students and anyone with an interest in the topics discussed.
