Manfred Lachs Space Law Moot Court Competition Asia Pacific Regional Round 2026
The Manfred Lachs Space Law Moot Court Competition is an annual event organized by the International Institute of Space Law (IISL) since 1992. The Asia Pacific Regional Round, introduced in 1999, serves as a platform for law students from the region to engage in simulated court proceedings on space law issues. The winner of this round represents the Asia-Pacific region at the World Finals, traditionally judged by members of the International Court of Justice and held in conjunction with the International Astronautical Congress.
The 2026 competition focuses on the "Case Concerning Liability and Responsibility for Space Activities of Non-Governmental Corporate Actors," challenging participants to explore complex legal issues surrounding private entities in space. Key sessions include oral arguments, memorial submissions, and a conference on space law, providing a comprehensive understanding of current challenges and developments in the field.
Participants will have opportunities for networking with peers, legal professionals, and industry experts. The event also features an expo hall showcasing advancements in space law and technology. Notable speakers, including esteemed academics and practitioners, will share insights on emerging trends and legal frameworks governing outer space activities.
Law students, legal practitioners, and academics with an interest in space law are encouraged to attend. The competition offers a unique platform to develop advocacy skills, gain exposure to international legal proceedings, and connect with leading experts in the field.
