2026 Student Trial Advocacy Competition

The Student Trial Advocacy Competition (STAC) is an annual nationwide mock trial tournament organized by the American Association for Justice (AAJ). Established in 1980, STAC provides law students with a platform to develop and showcase their trial advocacy skills in a competitive environment. The competition is recognized as one of the premier trial advocacy contests in the United States.

In 2026, STAC will adopt a hybrid format. Regional tournaments are scheduled from March 5 to 8, featuring both in-person and virtual competitions. The top two teams from each region will advance to the National Finals, which will be held in person from March 26 to 29 in New Orleans, Louisiana. This structure ensures broad participation and accommodates diverse preferences for competition formats.

Participants will engage in simulated trials, honing skills such as case preparation, opening statements, witness examination, and closing arguments. The competition emphasizes practical courtroom experience, allowing students to apply legal theories in realistic settings. Additionally, the event offers networking opportunities with peers, legal professionals, and potential employers, fostering connections that can benefit future careers.
