The 2026 Trial Advocacy Program (TAP) is an annual initiative organized by the Washington State Bar Association (WSBA) to enhance trial skills among attorneys. This program is tailored for legal professionals with limited or no trial experience in both criminal and civil law, aiming to equip them with practical courtroom competencies.
The two-day Continuing Legal Education (CLE) seminar, scheduled for April 16 and 17, 2026, will comprehensively cover the entire jury trial process. Key topics include jury selection (voir dire), handling objections, direct and cross-examinations, presenting evidence, and delivering closing arguments. Participants have the flexibility to attend the CLE sessions either online or in person at the WSBA office in Seattle, with catered lunches provided for those attending on-site.
Following the first day of the CLE, attendees are invited to the "TAP into Connections: New Member Social & Trial Advocacy Program CLE Mixer" on April 16. This networking event, hosted by the Washington New Members Committee, offers an opportunity to connect with peers and enjoy refreshments. Additionally, a mock trial is scheduled for May 9, 2026, at the WSBA office, allowing participants to apply their newly acquired skills in a simulated courtroom setting and receive constructive feedback from experienced judges.
This program is particularly beneficial for attorneys seeking to develop or refine their trial advocacy skills. By participating, attendees will gain practical experience, enhance their courtroom confidence, and expand their professional network within the legal community.
