TRILA Singapore Conference 2026
by Centre for International Law, National University of Singapore
The TRILA Singapore Conference 2026 is a two-day event organized by the Centre for International Law at the National University of Singapore. It aims to advance innovative and context-sensitive approaches to teaching and researching international law in the Asia-Pacific region. This conference continues the tradition of previous TRILA meetings held in 1964, 2001, and 2018, fostering a community dedicated to enhancing the understanding and practice of international law in diverse settings.
Key topics include the role of international law in legal education and practice, strategies for engaging students, the relationship between international and domestic legal systems, curriculum design incorporating emerging fields like artificial intelligence and climate change, and the impact of digital technologies on teaching and research. The conference will also address challenges such as teaching in resource-limited institutions and balancing teaching, research, and service responsibilities.
The event will feature a mix of panels, roundtable discussions, and interactive sessions designed to promote focused engagement and broad participation among attendees. Notable speakers include Professor Joan Largo from the University of San Carlos, Philippines, and Professor Antony Anghie, Head of the TRILA Programme at NUS Centre for International Law. Participants will have opportunities for networking and collaboration throughout the conference.
This conference is ideal for international law educators, researchers, students at the LLM or PhD level, and practitioners from government, private sectors, NGOs, and international organizations. It offers a platform to reflect on pedagogical practices, curriculum design, and research agendas, with particular attention to perspectives rooted in the Asian region. Attendees will gain insights into emerging challenges and opportunities in international law and identify pathways for collaboration and innovation in teaching and research.
