Matthew Johnson
Partner at Jones Day
Matthew Johnson is a Partner at Jones Day, chairing the PTAB sub-practice. He has been active at the PTAB since its inception in September 2012, representing clients as both petitioners and patent owners, and advocating in appeals from Board proceedings at the Federal Circuit. He administers Jones Day’s PTAB Litigation Blog, which has published nearly 1,000 articles on PTAB practice and procedure over the last 10 years. A registered patent attorney since 2006, Matthew has a background in electrical engineering and experience as a database programmer, drafting and prosecuting numerous patent applications in software and hardware innovations. He regularly speaks on the intersection of law and technology, particularly AI and robotics, including teaching IP-related classes at Carnegie Mellon University’s Robotics Institute. He serves on the board of Transitional Services, Inc., assisting individuals with mental disabilities in achieving meaningful lives in the community.
