The Sedona Conference Working Group 6 Annual Meeting 2018

The Sedona Conference Working Group 6 Annual Meeting 2018 was a specialized gathering focused on international electronic information management, discovery, and disclosure. Organized by The Sedona Conference, a nonpartisan, nonprofit research and educational institute dedicated to advancing law and policy in areas such as antitrust, complex litigation, intellectual property rights, and data security and privacy, the event aimed to foster collaboration among legal professionals, technologists, and policymakers to address complex cross-border data issues.

The meeting addressed several critical topics, including the choice of law for data in international contexts, international arbitration, international legal holds, ephemeral data, and dawn raids. Additionally, sessions were held to update attendees on EU regulatory developments and cross-border discovery case law, as well as to discuss cross-border discovery and investigations in relation to data protection laws in regions such as the Asia-Pacific, South America, and the Middle East.

Attendees had the opportunity to engage in networking events, including a welcome reception on the evening of Sunday, January 13, 2019, from 6-8 pm. The event also featured a corporate counsel meeting on January 15, from 7:45 – 9:15 am, providing a forum for corporate counsel and The Sedona Conference leadership to discuss and benchmark cross-border transfer best practices in a relaxed and informal setting.

This event was particularly beneficial for legal professionals, corporate counsel, and technologists involved in cross-border data management, discovery, and compliance. It provided a platform to stay informed about the latest developments in international data law and to collaborate with peers facing similar challenges.
