Mansfield Cybersecurity Speaker Series: Thinking Globally, Working Locally

by The Ohio State University at Mansfield and the Richland Area Chamber & Economic Development

The "Mansfield Cybersecurity Speaker Series: Thinking Globally, Working Locally" is a collaborative initiative between The Ohio State University at Mansfield and the Richland Area Chamber & Economic Development. This series aims to enhance awareness and stimulate discussions on how local governments and businesses can prepare for future cybersecurity challenges.

The series comprises three events featuring distinguished speakers. On October 2, 2024, Kirk Herath, Cybersecurity Strategic Advisor to Governor DeWine, and Mark Bell, Cybersecurity Outreach Coordinator at The Adjutant General's Department of Ohio, discussed the cyber threats facing Ohio and strategies for protection. On November 6, 2024, Daniel J. Riedl, Chief of the National Security and Cyber Unit at the United States Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Ohio, addressed the evolving landscape of cybercrime and the challenges posed by technologies like cryptocurrency and AI. The final event on December 4, 2024, featured Helen Patton, an experienced Chief Information and Security Officer, who provided insights on how organizational leaders can manage cyber risks and implement effective cybersecurity strategies.

Each event began with a networking session offering appetizers and drinks, followed by the speaker's presentation and a Q&A session. These gatherings provided attendees with opportunities to connect with peers and industry experts, fostering a collaborative environment for discussing cybersecurity issues.

The series was designed for business owners, school administrators, local government officials, and citizens interested in protecting themselves against cyber attacks. By attending, participants gained valuable knowledge on current cyber threats and practical strategies to enhance their cybersecurity posture.
