"Who Controls Data in the Age of AI?" is a summit jointly hosted by the Data Transfer Initiative (DTI), LexLab at UC Law San Francisco, and GitHub. Scheduled for Friday, February 27, from 1:30 to 5:00 PM PST at 198 McAllister St, San Francisco, CA, this event delves into the evolving dynamics of data control in the context of artificial intelligence, platform governance, and legal frameworks.

The summit features two panel discussions. The first panel, "From Rights to Reality — Governing Data Portability in Practice," examines the practical implementation of data portability rights, exploring the interplay between regulatory decisions, platform design, competition policies, and market incentives. Panelists include Tom Majoch from Google, Kaylee Cox-Bankston of Morrison Foerster and Georgetown University Law Center, Isabel Hahn from the EU Delegation to the United States, and Daphne Keller from Stanford Law School.

The second panel, "AI, Data, and Control — New Tools, New Risks, New Power Dynamics," focuses on how artificial intelligence is reshaping data portability and interoperability. Discussions will cover AI's impact on technical capabilities, platform incentives, and emerging governance challenges. Panelists for this session are Tejas Narechania from UC Berkeley School of Law, Mike Linksvayer of GitHub, Kate Aishton from Aishton Law, PC, and Chris Riley from the Data Transfer Initiative.
